PARADISE, FOUND.

I came across this print entitled Praia Piquinia, by Christian Chaize, recently on 20x200. The sun-soaked sand, the gorgeous green to blue aqua gradient of the ocean, and the peppered neon umbrellas combine to create just a really beautiful image. I think my visual, destination/“spirit-creature” of sorts has always been the beach. When I just need a moment to step out of the realities of the day, I look for the closest image of water, whether it’s my Napali Coast postcard in my work area or, hopefully soon, this gorgeous odd to the outdoors. Chaize has a whole series based on this Portuguese beachfront that studies the ebb and flow both of the environment, it’s inhabitants and it’s climate from one elevated angle. I think the angle is also key to the strength of the image as it makes you, the viewer, feel like you are being faced with an important choice, stay here on this precipice and continue just observing this hidden oasis, or go join it. Water looks warm, what do you think?
