This was my first foray into embroidery, little did I know how long the process actually takes. This project was an education in the lost art of just slowing down and making something by hand.

Thuderdome Sweet Thunderdome

Combining my love of cult movies, specifically the 1985 Mad Max classic Beyond Thunderdome, and my growing desire to work in embroidery, I created this nod to the classic “Home Sweet Home” stitching of yore. I had the idea for some time and was excited to set it into motion, stitch by sweet stitch.

This was my first foray into embroidery, little did I know how long the process actually takes. This project was an education in the lost art of just slowing down and making something by hand.

 I created a subtle gradation in the threads by combining two colors at once and slowly transferring them out. I wanted the practice of the stitching to represent a timeless art but the lettering and colors to be modern.

And of course after all that work, I had to hang it in my entry. The phrase has become a motto in my busy household.
