Mastery feels effortless in this classic film. Always smiling, even during the most difficult numbers, Kelly bounces and leaps through every scene. I wanted to capture that energy in the design.
I chose pure CMYK colors that were strong and modern, yet reference the Technicolor of the movie. I overlayed these colors to create secondary colors, and movements, hidden between each of Kelly’s gestures. The images were converted into halftone patterns so the overall look would be clean and have a strong contrast.
A good movie poster should capture the heart and fabric of the film while incorporating it’s own identity.
The challenge for me of designing a movie poster based on a classic, is giving it it’s own look and style. Singing in the Rain is so iconic, I felt I had to reference the most recognizable dance sequence, while modernizing the look.
Fun, vibrant, and playful…sometimes work just doesn’t feel like work.
I created promotional designs that placed film quotes with duotone imagery. These appeared in social media to tease the screening.
I really wanted to continue using a bold color palette for the promotional material to make all the designs work together and feel vibrant, modern, and playful.
