City Lights

Here is another movie poster I created for the Los Angeles based Secret Movie Club. This time they screened Charlie Chaplin’s classic City Lights in the historic Vista Theater in Silverlake. This film moves me to tears, both in its comedic timing and moving portrayal of the lengths of love.

I started the design by focusing on Chaplin’s eyes. The emotion they convey in every scene is astounding. His gestures, mannerisms, and gazes capture more than most films do today.

Chaplin’s ability to weave together brilliant comedic scenes with touching, and quiet meditations on love and loss is so inspiring. His films are an amalgamation of genres, seamlessly sharing the screen.

A good movie poster should capture the heart and fabric of the film while incorporating it’s own identity.
