THE LAST OF ITS KIND
On the corner of 5th and Spring, in the heart of downtown, lies a gem of a find. The Last Bookstore took residence in an old bank building in 2011, after folks donated too many books to the cause to house in their old space. The store has been expanding, and becoming more awesome, ever since. Respecting the original architecture of the bank, books are stacked in old bank vaults and hidden nooks, with old leather couches and loveseats begging to be curled up in. The downstairs is dedicated to new and used books and records (they have a GREAT selection) while upstairs is termed “the labyrinth” and literally explodes (reference the book tunnel image below) with $1 books around every turn. Go to find amazing deals and discoveries but stay to appreciate their rainbow categorized shelves and secret window nooks made out of stacked books.
I had to take the opportunity to strike a serious, academic pose in one of the sculptural book windows...you would too!
