"Lake George is without comparison, the most beautiful water I ever saw; formed by a contour of mountains into a basin... finely interspersed with islands, its water limpid as crystal, and the mountain sides covered with rich groves... down to the water-edge: here and there precipices of rock to checker the scene and save it from monotony." -Thomas Jefferson. 1791.We found ourselves (one five-hour flight, another connecting two-hour flight, and a one-hour car drive later) in the gorgeous Lake George area for a cousins wedding a couple of weeks ago. The setting was beyond beautiful, and a much needed escape from the hustle of our busy Los Angeles lives. The air was quite possibly the cleanest we’ve ever breathed, as Lake George is nestled deep in the Adirondack National Forest in upstate New York, with tress as far as the eye can see. As you drive around the lake, you can’t help but notice the charming motel and village signage appearing around every turn, dating mostly from the 1940s-60s. We took a drive and I tried to capture as many of these gems as possible to add to my typography inspiration files...and because I was distracted by the awesome signage I ummmm apparently failed to take that many pictures of the gorgeous lake. You can find more pics (lake & signs) in my instagram, hope you enjoy.
